*Woo woo woo*. What is that? Oh, autumn is just around the corner, and we’re waving goodbye to summer. But even if your ideal day starts and ends with bright sunshine, there’s a reason to rejoice when autumn and winter come: it gives you the opportunity to match your perfume wardrobe.
When the seasons change, you need to use perfume differently, as scents react differently on warm or cool skin, and many notes work better when paired with the right weather, clothing, and climate. Ready to wave goodbye to summer perfumes but don’t know where to start? Woody notes like cedar, pine, vetiver, and leather are perfect for autumn and winter, while spicy notes like cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, or ginger perfectly bridge the gap between the seasons. Read on for more tips on how to transition your perfume wardrobe from summer to autumn!
Try Different Fragrance Lines
Maybe no matter what the season, you’re a fan of flowers. Or, even if it’s pouring rain outside and it’s cold, you love the citrus flavor. But take advantage of this transition period of the year and try a few different fragrance lines – you might even discover a new signature scent!
There are four main types of perfumes: floral, oriental, woody, and refreshing. To transition your fragrance wardrobe from summer to autumn, you can try mixing and matching different fragrance types to create a new favorite, such as swapping a traditional floral fragrance for a fragrance with a rich woody base, or swapping your new fragrance for a new fragrance fragrance.
A good example is the Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, which combines rose and jasmine with patchouli and vetiver.
Pair Yours with a Summer Favourite
Not ready to give up your favorite summer perfume yet? Try softening that blow with an autumn perfume. Add floral notes to a woody base to strike a balance between feminine and masculine notes, adding depth and warmth to your floral scents without losing their charm.
Alternatively, layer an oriental perfume on a fresh fragrance for a spicy and refreshing contrast. This can add some complexity to your favorite fresh fragrance without making it too intense.
Try Some New Versions
Nothing gives us a taste of autumn like a new fragrance, and we’ve got our fragrance collection ready to be taken out as soon as the golden leaves first appear.
Our favourite additions include Jimmy Choo I Want Choo Forever, which has top notes of rose and bitter almond, black cherry and vetiver in the heart, and a rich musky base note, and Coach Wild Rose, which blends notes of redcurrant, rose, jasmine, ambergris ether and tonka bean.
We also love Givenchy’s L’interdit Rouge: it has a rich, spicy scent that’s perfect for cooler weather in autumn and winter, and the Oscar De La Renta Alibi fragrance, which combines aromatic ginger blossoms, tangerines and sweet vanilla orchids.
Use Signature Scents in Different Concentrations
During the summer months, you’ve probably been looking for a lighter, softer scent. And when the cold weather sets in, you may want a richer scent to complement the layers of clothing you’re going to wear before heading out. Eau de toilettes (EDPs) are ideal for autumn because they have more depth and intensity than other forms of perfume.
Remember the Different Occasions and Weather
For daytime activities, such as work, meetings, or leisure outings, you may want to opt for a light, fresh and light fragrance. On these occasions, you can keep your fragrance in the scent range of the summer months. For evening events such as parties, dates, or formal occasions, choose fragrances that are warm, spicy, and sensual. We invite you to try a scent that is more suitable for autumn!
Store Perfume Properly
If you’ve read some of our previous articles, hopefully you’ll store your perfume in the fridge or an equally cool place when the weather warms up.
But now, the sunny days are coming to an end and you can put the perfume back in the right place in your bedroom or bathroom. You still need to make sure that the perfume is stored in a cool, dry place to prevent it from smelling.
Have Fun!
Above all, perfume is a personal thing, and no one can tell you what is right and what is wrong. So, if the cold season hits and you still want to spray your favorite citrus or floral scent when you wake up, don’t let anyone stop you!
